India: W W W A W

India 1India secured their place in the Super Eight stage by topping Group A, boasting three wins and one match getting washed out. They kicked off their campaign with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Ireland, followed by a nail-biting six-run win against arch-rivals Pakistan. The Men in Blue then cruised to a seven-wicket triumph over the USA before the final group fixture was abandoned. In Super Eight, India defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs at Bridgetown, Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat, scoring a brilliant 53 off 29 to help India reach 181 before Jasprit Bumrah snared 3 for 7 in four overs.

Australia: W W W W W

AustraliaAustralia’s journey to the Super Eight was dominant, winning all four games in Group B. They began their campaign with a 39-run victory over Oman, followed by a 36-run triumph against arch-rivals England, posting 201 runs. The Aussies then thrashed Namibia by nine wickets and defeated Scotland by five wickets. They smashed Bangladesh by 28 runs via the DLS method in the first Super Eight fixture. Cummins took a hat-trick, and Zampa bagged 2 for 24 to restrict Bangladesh to 140 before Warner struck an unbeaten 53 off 35.

Afghanistan: W W W L L

AfganistanAfghanistan had an impressive run in the group stage, dominating New Zealand, Uganda, and PNG to secure their spot in Super Eight. However, their final group fixture saw a heavy defeat against West Indies, and followed by another in their opening Super Eight match against India. Despite Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi’s combined 6 for 59 in eight overs, Afghanistan conceded 181 in 20 overs. In response, their batters failed to challenge the Indian bowling attack, eventually getting bowled out for 134, unable to mount any significant pressure.

Bangladesh: W L W W L

bangladeshBangladesh emerged as the second-best side in their group, securing wins against Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal, with their sole defeat coming against South Africa. Their Super Eight campaign, however, started on a shaky note with a 28-run loss to Australia via the DLS method. Batting first, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy scored individual 40s, but Bangladesh managed only 140 in their 20 overs. In response, Australia were cruising at 100/2 in 11.2 overs before rain halted the match, sealing Bangladesh’s defeat.

Who will top Group 1 in Super Eight?

Moving on to who will top Group 1 in Super Eight of the T20 World Cup, the bookmakers have India as the favourites, followed by Australia. Afghanistan and Bangladesh lost their respective opening game in the group and are practically out of contention to be the group winner.

India, who registered comprehensive victory over Afghanistan, have a match against Bangladesh next. Given the difference in quality between them and Bangladesh, India should win that game as well. Australia smashed Bangladesh in the first game and are slated to play Afghanistan next, which they are heavy favourites to win.

Assuming India and Australia win their next match, it will come down to the clash against each other to decide the Group 1 winner. India have 1.65 odds on 22Bet and BetWinner to top the group, while you can bet on Australia at odds of 2.25 on either platform.

Looking at the two squads, India have a slight edge due to Jasprit Bumrah and a better spin department. We believe India will top Group 1 of Super Eight at the T20 World Cup.
