The defending champions England were on the verge of an early exit at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 but somehow advanced through to Super Eight. The marquee ICC T20 competition being hosted in the United States and the Caribbean has been a breath of fresh air and has delivered quite a few great moments.
England had multiple close shaves in the group stage after their first game against Scotland was washed out due to rain and they lost the following game against Australia. They then needed to win the remaining two games and rely on Australia to beat Scotland.

In their final group fixture against Namibia, it looked like their journey could end with a washout at several points. But the rain gods did allow them a reduced 10-over game, in which England posted 122 on the back of Harry Brook’s unbeaten 47 off 20, and won by 41 runs by DLS method.
The Jos Buttler-led side began the Super Eight stage in a convincing style, beating the hosts West Indies by eight wickets. Chasing 181, Phil Salt smashed an unbeaten 87 off 47 while Jonny Bairstow made 48 not-out in 26 deliveries as they finished the chase with 15 balls to spare.
