Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) square off in match number 56 of this 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai will be the venue for this game. Both these teams are in the bottom half of the points table.
The five-time champions MI have had a wretched run in this tournament. They only have a mathematical chance of reaching the playoffs. They lost eight matches in a row before they finally recorded their first win of this season.

Shreyas Iyer has looked solid at No. 3 while the likes of Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana have made decent contributions. Andre Russell’s all-round impact has been the key as well. With the ball, Umesh Yadav has led the charge while Sunil Narine has been very consistent. Tim Southee has bowled well too.

Head to head record is heavily stacked in favour of MI
MI have an overwhelming record against KKR. The five-time champions MI have won 22 games and KKR have won just eight. However, KKR have won two out of the last three games between these two sides. KKR chased down 162 inside 16 overs in the game earlier this season.
KKR’s top-order woes
KKR have struggled a lot at the top of the order. They just haven’t found a settled opening combination and their powerplay numbers with the bat have suffered. KKR have lost as many as 20 wickets in 10 games in the first six overs. They have the worst average in the powerplay (19.35) and have the third-worst strike-rate (107.50) in this IPL 2022. Umesh Yadav has been superb with the ball for KKR and has returned with 15 scalps in 10 games at an economy rate of 7.15. Andre Russell’a all-round impact makes him one of the top contenders as well. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has been batting beautifully and he has struck three fifties in seven innings. He could be a solid contender to be the player of the match.
