BCCI have announced India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are back in the squad while injured Ravindra Jadeja is not fit to be part of the squad yet.
Axar Patel has replaced Ravindra Jadeja who recently underwent a knee surgery. Another major player missing out from the T20 World Cup squad is Mohmmad Shami, who is listed as standby player for the tournament.
Most of the selections have been as expected with little to no surprises except the exclusion of Mohmmad Shami.
While fans would be disappointed seeing a senior like Shami in the reserves, he wasn’t part of the T20 setup for quite some time.
Is this squad fit for a multi-nation tournament in Australia? Let’s find out.

Bumrah and Harshal return to India T20 World Cup squad
India missed the services of these two pacers during the recent Asia Cup T20 where the men in blue suffered back to back losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage.
The significance of Bumrah’s pace and accuracy has become even clearer after India’s exit from the Asia Cup.
Harshal Patel and Bumrah are currently India’s best death overs bowlers. Another promising name for the death overs is Arshdeep Singh, who delivered a great last-over in India’s defeat against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Many argued that if Bhuvneshwar had not leaked as many runs in the 19th over on both occasions, Arshdeep Singh would have won the match for India.
Now with Bumrah and Harshal in the bowling attack, India’s death-overs bowling in Australia will be as strong as ever.
Dinesh Karthik’s first appearance in a T20 World Cup since 2010
India’s senior most wicket-keeper batsman, Dinesh Karthik has made it to the 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2022. This will be his first appearance in a T20 World Cup since 2010.
A remarkable return from the wicket-keeper batsman in the recent IPL edition made it difficult to overlook him in the national squad. He was chosen over Pant in India’s group stage clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
Here is India’s full T20 World Cup squad –
Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul (vc), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh
Standby players -Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar.
Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya will be the key batters to watch out for in Australia.
These three would love the conditions down under as they suit their style of play. Virat has recently found his form and will be extremely confident when he comes to Australia. Virat Kohli has a great record in Australia and Hardik Pandya also marked his return to form on his last tour of Australia.
Mohammad Shami in the squad for Australia T20 series at home
India will take on Australia in a T20 series at home that begins on 20th September in Mohali.
Mohammad Shami will be part of the T20 squad for this series along with Deepak Chahar. Arshdeep Singh is rested for this series while the remaining players from the T20 World Cup squad will feature in the Australia T20Is.
This will be a great opportunity for India to find a balance in their playing XI which they failed to do during the Asia Cup.
Will the hosts bounce back from their heartbreaking losses in UAE?
Though India registered a record win against Afghanistan in their last Asia Cup fixture with Kohli reaching his 71st hundred after 3 years, there are still some major concerns India need to address.
India’s fielding in pressure situations, the captain’s changing attitude under pressure, inconsistency of match-finishers, and failure of bowlers in the death-overs is what India will be looking to rectify in this series.
India have dominated their home series against each and every opposition. And in this series, where Australia are coming in without Starc, Stoinis, and Marsh, India’s chances of winning the series are even higher.
