India and Zimbabwe will face each other in a 5-match T20I series from Saturday, July 6 to Sunday, June 14. The Harare Sports Club will host all the games.
India recently won the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA after beating South Africa by 7 runs in the final at the Kensington Oval. For the upcoming series, only Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson will be playing in the upcoming series.
Dube played a critical role for India in most of the games. Samson, on the other hand, did not get to play a single match and would be keen to make a mark in the upcoming series. The series is also a chance for youngsters to grab their spots after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is.
Ahead of the white-ball matches, we take a look at the key players to watch out for in the Zimbabwe vs India T20I series

Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal broke into India’s T20 World Cup, but did not get a single chance to play. Last year, the southpaw got his first chance of playing for India after his record-breaking campaign for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Back then, he broke Shaun Marsh’s record of most runs by an uncapped batter in a single edition of the T20 league. Moreover, he broke KL Rahul’s record for the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL.
Later in 2023, Jaiswal made the record for the most runs in a T20I in the powerplay during a match against Australia. But in the presence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal had to warm the benches throughout the T20 World Cup. Jaiswal was hard done by, but now with Kohli and Rohit already retired, the left-handed batter is in with a great chance of cementing his place in the team.
Jaiswal is most likely to open the batting in Zimbabwe and if he gets into his groove, he could pose a massive threat for the opposition bowlers.
Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag found his way into the Indian team for the T20I series against Zimbabwe after his sensational run for the Royals in IPL. Parag has been with RR since 2019 after he won the U19 World Cup with India in 2018 under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw. Parag looked a promising prospect in his maiden IPL season, but then he struggled to perform in the subsequent four seasons.
Despite doing well for Assam in domestic cricket, Parag was not able to replicate something similar in the IPL. But in 2024, the young batter turned his fortunes around. He finished third in the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament, having notched 573 runs from 16 matches at an average of 52.09 and a strike-rate of 149.21 with 4 half-centuries and a top score of 84 not out to his name.
With senior players moving away gradually, Parag is in with a great chance to put in some strong performances with the bat in hand and strengthen his case for the next T20 World Cup.

Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma first forayed into the scene in the 2018 U19 World Cup, but since then, his career has seen several ups and downs. But the 2024 edition of the IPL has started to turn his career around. Playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he batted alongside Travis Head and played some masterful knocks under pressure.
In 16 matches, Abhishek scored 484 runs from 16 matches at an average of 32.26 and a strike-rate of 204.21 with 3 half-centuries and a top score of 75 not out to show for his efforts. He also holds the record for the fastest fifty by an SRH batter off 16 balls against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Abhishek is also someone who can bowl handy left-arm spin and is a man with the golden arm. He will be looking to prove a point in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh was unlucky to miss out on India’s T20 World Cup campaign after he could only make it among the travelling reserves. Rinku is seen as someone who could be India’s finisher in T20Is in the times to come. Last year, he made his debut on the tour of Ireland and from there on, he has not looked back. Fans were enraged after he was not picked for the world event in the Caribbean and the USA.
In 11 innings from 15 T20Is until now, Rinku has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and a strike-rate of 176.23 with 2 half-centuries to his name. He has cemented his place in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team and now it is time for him to do the same in the Indian team.
Rinku is someone who prefers to go for the big shots right from the word go. The left-handed batter has developed the art of finishing off matches with his powerful strokes.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi has been around the scene since the 2020 U19 World Cup where India finished as the runners up after losing to Bangladesh in the final. After his impressive performance in the multi-nation event in South Africa, Bishnoi earned a contract with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL after which he went on to play for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
In 24 T20Is, Bishnoi has taken 36 wickets at an economy rate of 7.50. Last year, Bishnoi also became the No.1 ranked bowler in T20Is. In the 5-match T20I series against Australia, the young leg-spinner picked up 9 wickets at an economy rate of 8.20.
