Today we bring you a preview of Texas Super Kings as the second season of Major League Cricket (MLC) gets underway. The inaugural edition of the tournament was won by MI New York who will be yet again looking to lift the trophy.
MLC has provided a massive platform for the budding cricketers in the USA. More than last year, the growth of cricket could be visible this time around with T20 World Cup matches played in New York, Dallas and Florida. Moreover, unlike the first season, the league has also received LisA-A status from the ICC which means it is a recognised T20 tournament now.
The second season of MLC will see 25 matches being played from July 5 to 28 across two venues – Church Street Park in Morrisville and Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Each of the six teams will play seven matches in the league stage before the top four teams advance for the playoffs.
Texas Super Kings finished the league stage previous season at the second position with three wins and two losses in five outings. The Super Kings, led by Faf du Plessis, were knocked out in the Challenger encounter by the eventual winners MI New York. The team will be hoping to go one step further and make it to the final this time around.

Texas Super Kings retained captain Faf du Plessis, Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner from the inaugural edition. They managed to sign top players like Aiden Markram, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq and Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

Key Players
Faf du Plessis who will turn 40 midway into MLC 2024 will be massive for TSK’s fortunes. He led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to playoffs earlier this year. Faf did well with the bat too amassing 438 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 161.62 with four fifties to his name. Du Plessis is a tremendous leader and likes to lead from the front. He would be looking to do the same in this MLC season.
Aiden Markram is coming off a good T20 World Cup where he led South Africa to the final. However, his batting form hasn’t been great over the last few months. He scored 220 runs in 11 innings in IPL 2024 and then mustered 123 runs in nine innings at the T20 World Cup. Markram is a much better batter than those numbers and can bamboozle the batters with his off-spin too having picked two wickets in the World Cup.
Gerald Coetzee will play a massive role with the ball for Texas Super Kings. He picked up 13 wickets in 10 innings for five-time champions Mumbai Indians and has pace up his sleeves to make an impact. Coetzee was South Africa’s top bowler in the ODI World Cup last year as well and will be crucial to TSK’s fortunes this season.
Marcus Stoinis will be key as well for the Super Kings this time around. His all-round form is really good and was the number one all-rounder in the ICC rankings for a brief period during the World Cup as well. He scored 169 runs in five matches of the tournament at a strike rate of 164.07 and picked up 10 wickets too standing out for Australia.

In Santner, they have one of the best left-arm spinners in the shortest format.
Among domestic players, Milind Kumar featured for USA in the World Cup and that experience he will have to put to use to perform well at the MLC.
