The second season of Major League Cricket got underway on Friday with a clash between the reigning champions MI New York Seattle Orcas at Church Street Park in Morrisville.

MI New York are owned by Indiawin Sports, who have franchises in other leagues such as Indian Premier League, SA20, and ILT20. Having won the inaugural MCL season, they retained most of the squad, including Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan and Trent Boult. Nicholas Pooran is amongst the top tier players in T20 cricket and has been in pretty good form. Recently, he scored 228 runs from seven innings in the T20 World Cup, averaging 38 while striking at 146 with the best score of 98. He was the top run-scorer in the first MLC season, with 388 runs in eight games at an average of 64 and strike rate of 167. Pooran began this season with a superb 62 not-out in 37 deliveries.
Trent Boult has a reputation as one of the best operators of the new ball in any format. Having moved his focus towards the shorter format, the former New Zealand pacer has been in good form in T20 cricket. Boult was excellent in the T20 World Cup, picking nine wickets in four games at an economy of 3.66. The left-arm seamer was the leading wicket-taker in the previous MLC edition, with 22 scalps from just eight games at a strike rate of 8.40.
Rashid Khan is the best spinner in the shorter format and will be one of the key assets for MI New York in this season. The Afghan leg-spinner had a fantastic campaign in the T20 World Cup, where he claimed 14 wickets in eight games at an economy of 6.17, including two four-wicket hauls. In the first edition, Rashid took eight wickets in six outings while conceding runs at 6.83, and has kicked off this season with a three-for.
