Copa América: Argentina vs Peru Preview & Betting Tips

Copa América Argentina vs Peru Preview & Betting Tips

Tournament favorites Argentina are all set to face Peru in their final Group stage encounter on the 30th of June. The heated match is set to take place in the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. The game will be no short of exciting as both teams are off to a great start and currently sit at the top two positions of the group table.

Argentina has done exactly what was expected of them in their first Copa América match. They beat Canada 2-0, with them dominating in every possible stat. Their intent is clear: they are going for their 16th Copa América title no matter what. Lionel Scaloni’s tactic is evident which is overwhelming the midfield with Lionel Messi as the playmaker, overrunning the wings with Angel Di Maria, and finishing the jobs with Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez.

Peru was in shambles a few months back after their disastrous run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. But they have managed to find their rhythm with the mastery of their newfound coach, Jorge Fossati, “The Grandfather.” The changes were prominent in their recent Copa América encounter with Chile, where they held them in a goalless draw. With Jorge Fossati turning the tides for Peru, La Blanquirroja is expected to give a tough fight at the Group Stages.

You cannot write Peru off right away, given that the nation has two Copa América titles in its cabinet and has been the runner-up of the 2019 edition. Also, their recent performance suggests that the Argentina vs. Peru match may not end up being a one-sided game at all.

Argentina Team Preview

ArgentinaArgentina has been off to a flying start in their Copa América campaign, comfortably beating Canada. They identified their flaws in their 2-0 defeat against Uruguay and have made a comeback as the dominant force they have been since their last campaign in Brazil.

As usual, Lionel Scaloni has set Messi as the heart of the team and has organized the formation around him. This was evident in the match against Canada, where Lionel Messi took on the role of Playmaker and pulled the strings for their midfield throughout the match. His flawless supply of balls kept the opponents constantly under pressure. Peru midfielders will have to go through a very hard time keeping Messi under shackles.

Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez are considered the main attacking factors of the team, and they seem to understand their roles very well. Substituting Lautaro Martinez for Alvarez proved effective for Lionel Scaloni, as both scored goals for Argentina against Canada. Moreover, Lautaro Martinez shining in the Copa América has become a norm now.

Also, there’s no denying that Alexis Mac Allister has become irreplaceable for la Albiceleste. Mac Allister is a key part of Scaloni’s plans and has been nothing but brilliant for the team. He made a brilliant assist to the first goal for Argentina against Canada.

Argentina’s defensive line has been a little shaky which became evident in their encounter with Uruguay. But they have managed to put things together and came out with a clean sheet against Canada, which is a silver lining for them.

All in all, Argentina has made sure they are the hardest contenders to play with before coming to Copa América 2024.

Predicted XI: Emiliano Martínez; Molina, Romero, Lisandro Martínez, Acuña; Paredes, De Paul, Mac Allister; Di María, Julián Álvarez, Lionel Messi

Peru Team Preview

peru flagge rundPeru is off to a decent start in the 2024 Copa América as they hold Chile to a goalless draw. All is possible due to the wide range of changes made to the team by Jorge Fossati. Peru has a good combination of young and experienced players in their team. With young talents like Oliver Sonne and veteran players like Paolo Guerrero in the squad, who knows, Peru may end up becoming the Dark Horse of this edition of Copa América.

As always, everyone’s eyes will be on Peru’s most experienced and popular campaigner, Paolo Guerrero. He has been a prolific striker for La Blanquirroja, having 39 international goals in his name. However, he has failed to add a goal to his records since 2019, possibly because of his age. But Jorge Fossati thinks he can still deliver and has put him on his plans. Gianluca Lapadula can also be the one who makes the difference for Peru when it’s needed.

Peru’s strength undoubtedly lies in its defense. It has an array of quality defenders on its squad. Peru’s rising young talent, Oliver Sonne, has been a great find and has already shown what he’s capable of. Andy Polo has also become a house name for Peru’s defensive line, even though he underperformed against Chile.

The one who has the most ability to pull wonders for Peru is undoubtedly their new coach, Jorge Fossati. His tactics may even shift the fate of a one-sided match; at least, that’s what Peruvians have started to believe.

Predicted XI: Pedro Gallese, Miguel Araujo, Carlos Zambrano, Alexander Callens, A. Polo ,S. Peña, W. Cartagena, P. Quispe, (c) L. Advíncula, Gianluca Lapadula, Edison Flores
