Rohit Sharma and injuries seem to go hand in hand. While chasing a target of 165 in the 3rd T20I against West Indies, India skipper suffered a back spasm and was retired hurt after scoring 11 off 5 balls.
In the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said that it was ‘okay’ at the moment and in the few days between the next match, he should hopefully be okay.
BCCI shared an update on Rohit’s injury stating that the medical team is monitoring his progress.
For fans, the nature of this injury is a major concern as it could raise doubts over Rohit’s availability during the upcoming Asia Cup. Whereas, for the critics, yet another injury, is fodder for some harsh remarks and trolling.
Can India win the T20I series without Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India in the 1st T20I of the series with 64 off 44 balls. While he was out for a duck in the 2nd match, he did look in fine touch in the 3rd T20I before retiring hurt.
Rohit Sharma has a huge impact on any playing XI at the international stage, be it Test, ODI, or T20. However, looking at India’s current bench strength, Rohit’s absence is less likely to get India into trouble.
Sanju Samson, who came into the squad as a replacement for KL Rahul can be seen opening for India if Rohit isn’t available for the remainder of the series.
Looking at the way the Indian T20 squad is shaping up, giants like Kohli and Sharma are no more indispensable.

Uncertainty over WI vs IND USA T20Is?
The 4th and 5th T20Is are scheduled to be played in Florida. Many of the players haven’t received their US visas yet. And this has raised questions over the future of the T20I series.
Cricket West Indies is optimistic that the players will receive their visas in time. However, in the worst case scenario, changing the venues to Caribbean is not unlikely.
On 3rd August 2022, players will be flying to Guyana for their visa appointments, just 3 days before the 4th T20I match.
The clock is ticking for the Windies cricket board. Any further delay in visa approval will force CWI to consider an alternate plan.
With a 2-1 lead, can India seal the series in the 4th T20I?
From Suryakumar Yadav to Arshdeep Singh and the reliable veteran finisher, Dinesh Karthik, we have witnessed many impact players on this tour. Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya form an exciting middle-order for a T20I side.
Even with no Rohit Sharma, India still has a couple of attacking options to fill that role. The men in blue tick all the boxes when it comes to their squad formation. Pandya’s return to form with the ball is great news for India going ahead in this series and to the Asia Cup.
With the winning momentum on their side, India are very likely to win the next match and seal the series 3-1.
