The eighth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is scheduled to commence on July 5. Chepauk Super Gillies will be locking horns against the defending champions Lyca Kovai Kings at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem.
A total of 32 matches are set to be played among eight participating teams – Lyca Kovai Kings, Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, Trichy Grand Cholas, Salem Spartans, Siechem Madurai Panthers, Nellai Royal Kings and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans.
The matches will be held across five venues – Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindigul and Chennai and the tournament is set to be played till August 4 when the final is scheduled. TNPL has provided a perfect opportunity for the players in the state to stake their claim for top-flight cricket especially the Indian Premier League (IPL). Moreover, national players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Varun Chakaravarthy and Vijay Shankar among others take part in the tournament that’s helpful for the young players.
TNPL 2024 format
Like every year, TNPL will see eight teams facing each other once in the league stage before the top four sides making it to the play-offs. Teams ending in top two positions in points table will face off in the first quarterfinal. The winner of this clash will directly qualify for the final while the third and fourth placed teams will face each other in the Eliminator.
The loser of this encounter will get knockedout while the winner will face the losing team from the Quarter Final 1. This will be the second quarter final and the winner from this match will make it to the final on August 4 to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Chennai is set to host only two matches – Quarter-final 2 and the final while Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Dindigul venues will see nine, eight, six and seven matches being played respectively. Dindigul will host the Quarter-Final 1 and Eliminator of the tournament this time around.

Chepauk Super Gillies is the most successful team in TNPL history having won the tournament a massive four times – in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022 editions.
