Just days after India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in the Caribbean, a new chapter will begin in Indian cricket with the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe.
The Indian fans and players will still be in the high of winning an ICC world tournament after more than a decade but Zimbabwe will be hoping to prove their mettle in the series. The five-match T20I series is scheduled to take place from July 6th to July 14th, with all five games slated to be played at Harare Sports Club.
For India, this series serves as a chance to test their bench strength and give opportunities to emerging talents. With several senior players rested after the gruelling World Cup campaign, the spotlight will be on the younger and less experienced players. The new-look Indian side will be led by Shubman Gill, with others such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag looking to make their mark.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be looking to make a statement against one of the cricketing powerhouses. The home team will rely heavily on key players like Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, and Blessing Muzarabani to challenge the Indian side. The series provides Zimbabwe with a crucial opportunity to gain experience and confidence against a top-tier team, which can be invaluable for their growth in the international arena.
The last time these two teams met each other in the shorter format was in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where the men in blue had hammered Zimbabwe by 71 runs in the back of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav’s half centuries. The last bilateral T20 series between the two sides happened back in 2016, with the MS Dhoni-led winning all three games.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side recently clinched their second T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final at Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29th. Only a few players from that squad will feature in this upcoming series. Zimbabwe were not part of the T20 World Cup, with their previous assignment coming in May, where they lost a five-match series against Bangladesh by 4-1.

Looking at the track record of the two teams, Zimbabwe are a considerably weaker side even when compared to the second string Indian side. The visitors have some terrific batters in the side such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson.
In Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Tushar Deshpande, India have a decent bowling attack as well. Zimbabwe are a side that heavily relies on Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams to provide them the fire power in the batting department while Blessing Muzarabani and Raza will be key bowlers. All in all, India have a much stronger side and you can bet on them winning on 20Bet.
Moving on to the individuals, Shubman Gill is one of the most consistent batters in the game. IPL 2024 wasn’t nearly as productive for him as the 2023 edition but he still made 426 runs at an average of 39 and strike rate of 147, including one hundred and two fifties. You can bet on Gill to be India’s top batter in this series.
India’s left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed had a pretty decent season in the IPL and received this call up on the back of it. He picked 17 wickets in the season at a strike rate of 17.4.
