There are also a few players who are currently involved with the team as traveling reserves. These are:
- Afif Hossain
- Hasan Mahmud
The Batsmen
Bangladesh’s batting lineup has a very strong top order. However, Bangladesh has a bad habit of losing wickets fast once the top order falls despite having hard hitters in the middle order. The Bangladeshi batsmen have to keep their cool if they want to put up large totals on the board. We will look into who has the most potential in each order of Bangladesh’s batting lineup.
The Top-Order Batsmen
Bangladesh has a solid top-order lineup. The top order is led by the team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and his longtime opening partner Liton Das. Najmul is a promising youngster who can keep his calm as an opener. He takes some time to settle in the crease but once he ramps up, he becomes a force to be reckoned with. Liton Das on the other hand is a glass cannon. The long time opener either hits hard or goes home. While he plays in a risky manner, his method is proven to work as he boasts a strike rate of 128.7. If he can stay on the pitch, he is sure to put up large numbers for the Tigers.
The Middle-Order Batsmen
The middle-order is in the safe hands of Shakib Al Hasan. The veteran has long claimed the rank of the number one all-rounder in the world. He is a capable batsman who is able to make amazing plays even in dire situations. He is joined by his partner in crime Mahmudullah Riyad who has consistently been one of the standouts in Bangladesh’s middle order. The two men are capable of forming amazing partnerships with any player on the pitch.
The All-Rounders
Bangladesh boasts some of the best all-rounders in cricket. Shakib alone claiming the number two spot in the world right now. Mahmudullah is also an asset to Bangladesh with his hand in the spin ball. Following the footsteps of these two is Mahedi Hasan who has proved himself one of the best players in Bangladesh’s team. Mahedi has a strike rate of 125.29 and a bowling economy of 6.02 runs per over. He is a threat both as a batsman and as a bowler.
The Wicketkeepers
Liton Das and Jaker Ali will put on the gloves as the wicket keepers for Bangladesh. The former of the two has been a staple as Bangladesh’s keeper since the retirement of the fan-favorite Mushfiqur Rahim.
The Bowlers
Bangladesh is renowned for having a spin-heavy bowling lineup. It is therefore no surprise that the squad consists mainly of spinners. Bangladesh’s spin lineup has the experienced Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah as some of the best among the bunch. Shakib is in great form and had a 4-wicket haul in the Zimbabwe series. Bangladesh also has Mahedi Hasan, Tanvir Islam, and Rishad Hossain as spinners.
Bangladesh has strong pacers in their lineup as well. The clear stand out is Mustafizur Rahman. The Fizz has been a threatening bowler since his debut and has been in top form in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Accompanying him is the vice-captain of Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed. With many years of experience under his belt, Taskin is a capable pacer and one of Bangladesh’s best. Joining the two are Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The latter proved his worth in the series against Zimbabwe and made his way into the main squad for the T20 World Cup.
The Ideal Playing XI
Bangladesh has awesome great players that Najmul can put into play. Among them, the Ideal XI according to us is as follows:
Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmud Ullah Riyad, Tanvir Islam, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed (vc), Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib
This lineup has Bangladesh’s hardest hitters starting the order and has almost all of Bangladesh’s spin options available. Since Bangladesh relies heavily on spin, the slight utilization of the three pacers in the eleven-man squad is sure to take their opposition by surprise.
Bangladesh Placement Prediction
We predict Bangladesh will go into the Super Eight but not reach the semi-finals.
Bangladesh is in group D of the tournament and is set to face off against Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands, and Nepal. While the Netherlands and Nepal will be easy matchups for Bangladesh, both Sri Lanka and South Africa have outclassed Bangladesh multiple times in the past. However, Bangladesh has been doing well recently and may be able to overcome Sri Lanka but will still falter to South Africa finishing second in the group.
Once they move into the Super Eight, Bangladesh will have to face either India or Pakistan in their first game. Both the matchups are unfavorable for Bangladesh as the Tigers have lost most of their games against the two giants.
Bangladesh has a promising new team that will have to face insurmountable odds to win the cup. We still expect the team to put up a good fight against whatever opposition they face.
