It is game number 45 in this 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Delhi have been inconsistent in this tournament. They have three wins and four losses and they have not been able to build any sort of momentum. Their batting has largely been reliant on the openers, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, both of whom have been in great touch. But apart from the fiery duo, none of them have really got the big scores. Rishabh Pant has failed to convert his starts while the rest of the middle-order hasn’t made any substantial contribution. DC’s bowling has been decent with Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav leading the wicket charts for them.
On the other hand, LSG have been in good form. They have won five and lost three so far and have floated in and around the top four. Over the last few games, it is the brilliance of KL Rahul that has carried the LSG batting line-up. He has been magnificent at the top and has been churning out the big scores once again. Quinton de Kock’s form has tapered off a touch while Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni have been decent in the middle-order. Most of the bowlers for LSG have chipped in nicely. Avesh Khan is the leading wicket-taker while Jason Holder and Dushmantha Chameera have performed well. Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi haven’t really run away with the game but they’ve been economical.

DC’s fiery opening pair and the blistering powerplays
Delhi have a magnificent opening pair in David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. The duo have been instrumental in DC’s batting performances this season.
After a rare blip in the 2021 edition of the IPL, Warner is back to his best in this tournament. He has been racking up the big scores consistently and is back to his normal beast IPL mode. The left-hander has amassed three half-centuries in five innings (219 runs while striking at 157.55). Shaw isn’t too far behind. He has accumulated 254 runs at an average of 36.28 and a strike-rate of 164.93.
Both batters have been destructive in the powerplay. Warner has 132 runs at a strike-rate of 171.43 have in the first six overs while Shaw scores at 166.37 and has got 188 runs in the same phase. The duo have been dismissed only three times (combined) in the powerplay. In fact, in the five times they’ve batted, their lowest partnership has been 43.

Team News
Anrich Nortje was bowling in the nets and he could replace Mustafizur Rahman in the starting XI. By the time this game comes around, Mitchell Marsh is likely to have recovered from COVID-19 but DC may want to rest him for another game or two before throwing him in the mix once again. Avesh Khan had a niggle and missed LSG’s last game against MI. But he is most probably going to return to the XI and will replace Mohsin Khan.
Match prediction: Delhi Capitals vs Lucknow Super Giants
LSG have been in good form and they might start as favourites. They have the winning odds of 1.76. Meanwhile, you cannot count DC out. They have a quality side and are not too far behind. They have the odds of 1.89 to win this game.
Who will win the Man of the Match?
David Warner and KL Rahul are in prime form. The two openers from either side have been supremely consistent in the last few years of the IPL. Warner has three 60+ scores this season. Rahul has hit a couple of hundreds already. Hence, both of them may be in contention for the player of the match.
