In match number 29 of this 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans (GT) will be up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Gujarat have had a good start to this season. They won three games on the bounce before losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a game that went into the final over. Two out of their three wins were final over finishes. Their batting has been dependent on Shubman Gill at the top and Hardik Pandya in the middle. The others have been inconsistent. Meanwhile, barring the game against SRH, GT’s bowling has been excellent with the likes of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Rashid Khan and the skipper himself Hardik Pandya putting in some good performances.
On the other hand, CSK lost as many as four matches before registering their first win of the season. It is the worst start the four-time IPL champions have had in the history of the league. Their batting hasn’t really clicked and it was Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa’s blistering knocks that helped them breeze past Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last game. The bowling has struggled too. The mystery spin of Mahesh Theekshana has added some bite but they have missed Deepak Chahar badly, especially in the powerplay.

CSK’s powerplay struggles with bat and ball
Chennai have been poor in the powerplay with both bat and ball. With the ball, the absence of Deepak Chahar has been felt severely and with his return uncertain, CSK really need the other bowlers to step up in the first six overs. They have picked up only five wickets in as many games in the powerplay (three of which came against RCB) and have conceded 8.30 runs per over. That economy rate is the second-worst among all teams so far.
On the other hand, it’s even worse with the bat. CSK have a run rate of a mere 6.67 in the powerplay after their first five matches and this is the fourth-worst for any side in this year’s IPL. Uthappa is the only one striking in excess of 120 and apart from him, Moeen Ali is the only one to have a strike-rate of above 100 in the powerplay for CSK (minimum of 10 balls).
Thus, CSK really need to sort out their powerplay woes.

Team News – Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings
Deepak Chahar continues to be unavailable for CSK and Mukesh Choudhary has been expensive. Hence, Rajvardhan Hangargekar may finally get a game. The rest of the side is unlikely to change. As far as GT are concerned, Matthew Wade’s iffy form may see him make way for Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Match prediction
Gujarat Titans have had a good start and they may start as slight favourites. They have their winning odds placed at 1.67. Meanwhile, CSK can never be counted out but they haven’t been at their best this season. Thus, they have the winning odds of 1.89.
Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings Betting Tip – Who will win the Man of the Match?
Moeen Ali can have a huge impact with both bat and ball and he has performed decently in this tournament. Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube have been CSK’s torch-bearers with the bat and they could be the key. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya are likely to be the top contenders from the GT side.
