The Philadelphia 76ers finished fourth in the Eastern Conference regular season mostly because of Joel Embiid.
The center finished the season as the NBA’s leading scorer and a finalist in the MVP race but the Playoffs didn’t start well for him. First he suffered a thumb injury that requires surgery but he decided to play through it. Then, in Game 6 of the series against the Toronto Raptors, Embiid suffered a right orbital fracture and mild concussion which kept him away from the court from Game 1 against Miami. There is still no timetable for Embiid’s return but what is certain is that he will miss Game 2 of the series.
Game 1 showed that the Sixers are simply not the same team without Embiid. They have DeAndre Jordan as a backup who is simply only a rebounder and shot blocker and cannot score unless somebody throws him an alley-oop pass.
Tobias Harris tried to take over the teams’ scoring 27 points but former MVP James Harden had only 16 for the Sixers.
